Exploring the Winter Wonderland of Banff
February is often a month where winter is at its peak, and what better way to embrace it than with a trip to Banff? Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Banff is a picturesque destination that steals your heart with its stunning views and endless outdoor activities. As we live very close to the Rockies its a regular destination for us. The snow has been a bit unpredictable this year but the views are always worth the trip.
Once we arrived in Banff, we were not greeted by a blanket of snow as it was relatively warm! We decided to do the Sundance Canyon walk. There was plenty of packed down snow to walk on with only spikes on our boots. This walk starts at the Cave and Basin National historic site.
Trekking through the quiet forests, we filled our lungs with crisp, cold air . i am exaggerating when i say it was warm. I was quite comfortable with my balaclava covered face and about 3 layers of woollen clothing. Actually I love being in this environment because it gives justification for all my knitting - especially the socks. At the same time being surrounded by snow-capped trees is an experience like no other, offering peace and tranquility away from daily distractions.
Relaxing in Banff culture
It was relatively quite in Banff this week , being outside of school holidays and the snow not being great. But that's not a problem when you have a comfortable hotel with an excellent restaurant and great food and service. Pick a time that is not the peak and Banff is very relaxing. We didn't get to the hot sprigs this time but I highly recommend them if you have done a long hike or some tough skiing.
As our February journey drew to a close, we couldn’t help but reflect on what an enriching experience this trip to Banff had been. The combination of outdoor activities, breathtaking scenery, and good food created mean we will be back next year.
If you’re considering a winter getaway, I highly recommend adding Banff to your travel bucket list. Whether you are a thrill-seeker or just looking to relax, there are so many things to do you will return regularly - if you live nearby. So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
