My christmas knitting challenge
I’ve set myself a new challenge. In the middle of this whirlwind of last-minute Christmas preparations, I’ve decided to do something ambitious: knit three socks in just 15 days. Yes, you read that right—three pairs of socks. Why three? Because that is the number of step children waiting to receive them on Christmas eve as I promised!

My Sock Knitting Challenge
I’ve yet to publish the perfect sock pattern—according to me, at least—but that’s a goal for another time. For now, I’ve set myself a new challenge.
From Sweaters to Socks: A Knitting Journey
Over the years, knitting has become more than a hobby—it's a part of who I am. When I first picked up needles, I wasn’t thinking about socks. My early projects were sweaters and cardigans, pieces that tested my patience, taught me resilience, and gave me pleasure when they were finished. Each project was a journey, full of small triumphs and lessons learned.
But somewhere along the way, the humble sock won me over. Maybe it’s the practicality, the portability, or the endless creative possibilities. Now, I find myself utterly obsessed with sock knitting—a craft that combines utility with artistry in a way that few other projects can.
The First Socks: A Step Back in Time
My sock-knitting journey began before 2011. How do I know? I have photos of the very first pair I knitted for a small girl. They had little smiley faces on them—a small experiment in color work and a bold departure from plain "vanilla" socks. Those socks were special, not because they were perfect, but because they were my first attempt at something new and challenging.
Even earlier, I made a pair I based on a pattern named “Sister socks”, found in my knitting searches. Maybe Ravelry? They were knitted heel-free, a creative adaptation meant for someone else’s sister, and involved an afterthought heel. Looking back, I’d say those socks taught me the importance of embracing imperfections and learning from them. It’s funny to think that my sock-knitting roots might stretch all the way back to 2010—time truly flies when you’re having fun (and knitting furiously).
Can I Meet the Challenge?
Now, the question remains: Can I knit three sets of socks in 15 days amidst the chaos of the holiday season? The clock is ticking, and I’m ready to put my needles to the test. Will I succeed? Stay tuned—I'll keep you updated every step of the way.
Sock knitting has been a journey filled with creativity, determination, and a touch of whimsy. Whether I finish this challenge or not, it’s just another chapter in my ongoing love affair with this craft. Here’s to the joy of knitting, the beauty of handmade gifts, and the magic of the holiday season!
There's more to discuss here , for example what method I am using to knit these socks and will I get RSI from knitting so furiously? ..
